Origami Seal (Design by John Montroll)

Seal (Design by John Montroll)

Seal (Design by John Montroll)

This model is from John Montroll’s book – Animal Origami for the Enthusiast: Step-by-Step Instructions in Over 900 Diagrams/25 Original Models – and is a simple model to fold.

I have used graphite colored construction / craft paper for the folding of this particular folding. It was A4 size paper, which I cut into a square. But somehow, I am not all that happy with the end result. The simple reason being that I found this paper a bit too thick for the crimp folds at the feet when I got around to that stage. I think origami paper or something finer will be better for folding this.

This model took around 20 mins to fold and this time includes referring the diagrams on the book. Since the paper got a bit too thick for intricate folds for the hind feet, I took the liberty of making a slight change to the folds in order to accommodate the paper.

This Seal design is higher in complexity when compared to Hideaki Sakata’s – Origami, By Hideaki Sakata – book. But this model can be followed by beginners, too, provided they are familiar with the various folds.
